Ideal separation factor: Parameter defined as the ratio of the permeability coefficient of component A to that of component В and equal to the "separation factor" where a perfect vacuum exists at the downstream membrane face for gas and vapor permeation systems.

Ion exchange membrane: Membrane containing functional cation- or anion-exchange groups that allows selective mass transfer of ions.
